2020 PhD Research Days – Call for Proposals

The University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information (iSchool) invites proposals from doctoral students at the iSchool for 2020 PhD Research Days, which will take place April 8–9, 2020 TBD.

We encourage submissions from all iSchool doctoral students, regardless of their stage in the program. As such, it will include both long talks (15-20 min presentation & 10 mins Q&A) and short talks (10 min presentation & 5 min Q&A) for more preliminary work. iSchool Faculty mentors will provide feedback on the presentations. We highly encourage all PhD students to submit a proposal.

The theme for Research Days 2020 is “Making Information Futures Together: Rethinking Borders, Boundaries, and Intersections.” Research Days 2020 aims to bring the iSchool community together to present research, exchange ideas, and make connections to chart the future of Information Studies. As Research Days 2020 embraces the multidisciplinary nature of information studies, the committee calls for proposals that engage with conference themes or the field more generally. Research Days 2020 will explore the various intersections between information, technology, and society. We invite proposals from a variety of fields and perspectives that engage with issues including, but not limited to:

  • Archives & Records Management
  • Critical Information Policy Studies
  • Cultural Heritage
  • Information Systems and Design
  • Knowledge Management & Information Management
  • Library & Information Science
  • Media, Technology and Culture
  • Philosophy of Information

We especially encourage proposals that engage with:

  • Ethics and values
  • Social justice and activism
  • Information in the global south
  • Bridging divides
  • Energizing communities
  • Pushing boundaries

Organizers: Henria Aton, Aditi Bhatia, Cansu Dedeoglu, Jaisie Sin
